Unicorn Rainbow Birthday Party
Well guys, my little lady turns 7 in 2 days, so if I post her 6th birthday party before then it's totally on time, right? Whoops! It seems like just yesterday we celebrated our big girl turning 6, at the party theme of her choice "Unicorn, Rainbow, Sprinkler" Birthday. Dreams really do come true!
I try my very hardest to give the kids choices for their parties, and this year it was easy to relinquish control over the theme because it was clear that it was going to be unicorn whoever picked it. This girl is all about pink, sparkles and unicorns. It was really fun to bring the specific elements she requested to this party.
This was a busy party year for us, between Landon's 3rd birthday, my girlfriend's floral bridal shower and our annual favorite things party, we had a packed schedule. I wanted to make sure Reese felt spoiled and special, but this was a year that I let her have a say in a ton of planning because one can only throw so many over the top parties, so I knew this was her year to shine and my year to let it go!
The first detail she picked was the Rosé wall that we DIY'd for my girlfriends bridal shower. She spent hours in the garage with us as we built it, and you should have seen her face when I said "absolutely" when she requested it at her party. We decided to turn it into a "juice" bar and she picked the swirly unicorn straws from Amazon, and I repurposed some leftover plastic champagne flutes from a 50th birthday which worked perfectly to make the 6 year olds feel fancy, but not have to worry about broken glass- because- 6 year olds. We added some cut up fruit, and she helped me make the directions on how to make your very own "Unicorn Splash" drink (her drink name!)
The weather cooperated enough for us here in Seattle for a early fall outdoor birthday party, but unfortunately not enough for the unicorn and rainbow sprinklers. Each kid made one quick run through and immediately decided it was too cold and went back to their clothes to play in the yard. Since we were planning a sprinkler party, the only other activity I had for the kids was their unicorn horn bubble wands, but like always, they were just happy to run around and play!
By the end of summer and a birthday party every weekend, we were very sugared out this year, so we did something different with a yogurt bar and the kids really enjoyed making their own parfaits and the parents enjoyed a healthy alternative to ice cream!
With the craziness of this party season, we kept the dessert table to a minimum and I went store bought all the way. The cake was from whole foods purchased the day before the party and we simply stuck a unicorn cake topper on top. Fun fact, every time I've ever gone to Whole Foods there have been dozens of cakes in the display case so I didn't pre-order. Turns out when you actually need a cake, they will only have 3 to choose from. So sprinkle cake it was!
We purchased the adorable cupcake wrappers from Amazon and it wouldn't be a party if I didn't make at least one thing on my cricut, so of course we tied in the unicorn clipart with the adorable mini cupcake toppers. The sprinkles on top were a blend of leftover various sprinkles I had in our baking drawer and mixing the sprinkles and dipping the cupcakes was a super fun project for the kids and I and costed nothing to dress up the store bough cupcakes.
Blowing out the cake candles is one of my favorite things and I am so lucky to have my amazing friend Aleks capturing this evolving stage at all my kids parties. It will be so fun someday to compile them all in a book.
At the end of the day, all mama ever wants is a picture with my birthday kiddo and a family pic. Some years we nail it....others....
